Yankees’ Clarke Schmidt scratched from start vs. Rays

New York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt was scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday against the visiting Tampa Bays Rays because of soreness in his left side.Left-hander Ryan Yarbrough (0-0, 4.11 ERA) will start for the Yankees in the second contest of the three-game series. New York won the opener 3-0 on Friday.Schmidt (0-1, 5.52) told reporters that he felt additional soreness after tossing a season-high 90 pitches in a no-decision against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. He also said the injury was unrelated to the right rotator cuff tendinitis that delayed his season debut.
