Mets hire Carlos Beltran as special assistant to GM

The New York Mets named Carlos Beltran as a special assistant to general manager Billy Eppler on Thursday.The move comes more than three years after the Mets fired Beltran as manager in the wake of his role in the Houston Astros’ sign stealing scandal. He was hired as skipper in November 2019 and fired Jan. 16, 2020.”Carlos had an exceptional playing career, including several special years here in Queens,” Eppler said. “I’ve known Carlos for many years, and I’m excited to add his unique perspective to our Baseball Operations team.”
