Brandon Nimmo belted a grand slam and Francisco Lindor drove in three runs, helping the host New York Mets salvage a split of their doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers with a 7-3 victory on Wednesday.Nimmo’s grand slam in the second inning was the third of his career and second this season. He launched a grand slam against the Atlanta Braves on June 8, 2023, and again versus the Washington Nationals as part of a franchise record-tying nine-RBI performance on April 28.Lindor followed Nimmo’s grand slam with a solo homer in the second inning. Lindor added an RBI single in the sixth and an RBI double in the eighth on a day in which he was named as the starting shortstop for the National League in the All-Star Game. The Mets had lost four in a row and 14 of 17 games following their 7-2 setback in the opener of the doubleheader.Blade Tidwell (1-1) recorded his first win of his major league career after working 4 1/3 innings. After New York’s Huascar Brazoban pitched a scoreless first, Tidwell entered and hurled four scoreless innings before allowing solo homers to Christian Yelich and Jackson Chourio to start the sixth. Tidwell struck out his next batter and departed after Rhys Hoskins reached on an error.Dedniel Nunez relieved Tidwell and allowed Anthony Seigler’s first career hit and a run-scoring groundout by Joey Ortiz as New York saw its lead trimmed to 5-3. That closed the book on Tidwell, who yielded three runs on five hits. Two more relievers bridged the gap to Edwin Diaz, who struck out three batters over the final 1 1/3 innings to record his 17th save.
