Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Shane McClanahan will not be on the team’s roster for the remainder of the postseason, manager Kevin Cash announced during his media session on Sunday.
The Rays did not release their 26-man roster for the American League Championship Series against the Cleveland Guardians, which begins on Monday in St. Petersburg, Fla.
McClanahan was placed on the 15-day injured list with left forearm tightness after he left his Sept. 3 start in Texas, his 24th and final start of the season.
“Shane is done for the season. He’s a healthy pitcher. We are incredibly appreciative and grateful for the contributions that he gave us to get us to this point,” Cash said. “I mean, I think he’s got to be up there for Comeback Player of the Year with the time that he missed.”
McClanahan also spent July 31-Aug. 16 on the injured list with mid-back tightness.
The 29-year-old has weathered several extended trips to the IL during a career that began in 2021, including a 578-day layoff following a second Tommy John surgery in August 2023.
He attempted to return in 2025 and enjoyed a healthy spring training, but suffered a nerve injury in his left triceps that eventually required surgery.
McClanahan resembled the former Tampa Bay staff ace for much of 2026, posting a 10-7 record with a 3.36 ERA. He struck out 106 batters and walked 39 in 118 innings pitched.
According to Cash, McClanahan will remain with the team throughout the postseason.
“Right now, he’s really focused on being the best teammate, which he does … pretty seamlessly, and cheering his buddies on,” Cash said.
