Max Meyer combined with two relievers on a two-hitter and Matt Mervis hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs Wednesday afternoon as the visiting Miami Marlins beat the New York Mets, 5-0.Meyer (1-1) pitched 5 1/3 hitless innings before allowing a single to Francisco Lindor. He tied a career high by pitching 6 1/3 innings. Meyer allowed a single to Pete Alonso to open the seventh and was lifted after retiring Brandon Nimmo on a flyball.Meyer struck out four, walked two and recorded eight more outs on the ground. It was the second time in 14 career starts Meyer has pitched 6 1/3 innings.Mervis and Nick Fortes hit RBI singles in the fifth following a throwing error by New York second baseman Brett Baty. Jonah Bride added an RBI single in the ninth off New York closer Edwin Diaz before Mervis lifted a two-run homer to right field for a 5-0 lead.Anthony Bender followed Meyer and pitched 1 2/3 hitless innings and Lake Bachar completed Miami’s second shutout when Dane Myers crashed into the center field fence to get a fly ball by Alonso.New York’s Tylor Megill (2-1) started the game by issuing consecutive four-pitch walks to Xavier Edwards and Kyle Stowers before settling in. The right-hander allowed two unearned runs on six hits to go along with seven strikeouts and three walks in four-plus innings.
