One day after picking up some solid production off the bench from forward Asa Newell, the Atlanta Hawks picked up the third-year contract option to keep the first-round draft pick through the 2027-28 season.
In just his third appearance off the bench this season, Newell delivered 13 points with four rebounds in a 121-99 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday. He entered with three total points in his first two games played.
The No. 23 overall selection in the 2025 NBA Draft, Newell originally was selected by the Pelicans then traded to the Hawks on draft night. He averaged 5.2 points with 2.2 rebounds in 44 games (two starts) last season for Atlanta.
