The Buffalo Sabres acquired forward Jimmy Vesey from the New York Rangers on Monday morning for a third-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Vesey, 26, had a career-high 35 points (17 goals, 18 assists) in 81 games for the Rangers last season. He posted 50 goals and 40 assists in 240 games across the past three seasons for New York.
He will be entering the final season of a two-year contract, due $2.35 million in the 2019-20 season. The move saved the Rangers a cap hit of $2.275 million before the free agency period began Monday at noon ET.
Vesey was a third-round pick of the Nashville Predators in the 2012 NHL Draft but attended Harvard for four seasons and signed a free agent contract with the Rangers in August 2016.
